Mary Mac's Tea Room Celebrates 80 Years with Free Peach Cobbler Oct. 20, 2025

Mary Mac’s Tea Room, the Midtown landmark known as “Atlanta’s Dining Room,” will celebrate its 80th anniversary on Monday, Oct. 20, 2025 with a sweet thank you for its loyal guests. Every diner who purchases an entrée will receive a complimentary serving of the restaurant’s signature Georgia peach cobbler. The staff will also wear commemorative shirts in honor of the milestone.

Since opening in 1945 on Ponce de Leon Avenue, Mary Mac’s has grown from a single dining room with seating for 75 to six dining rooms and a full-service bar spread across 13,000 square feet. Though the restaurant has evolved over the decades, its kitchen still carries on the same traditions established by founder Mary MacKenzie and her successor Margaret Lupo, from baking desserts in-house to handwashing greens and snapping beans by hand.

The restaurant recently completed a full renovation, giving Atlanta’s beloved dining room a refreshed look with upgraded décor, fresh paint, new carpets and a renewed focus on Southern hospitality. Along with the improvements to its space, Mary Mac’s has refined its processes to give guests a dining experience marked by consistency, reliability and quality every time.

“Mary’s Mac’s has always been about family, tradition and creating memories” said Tina Leftwich, general manager of Mary Mac’s. “For years, long waits were a byproduct of our success, but we’ve worked hard to make sure today’s guests can count on less waiting and more enjoying. The food will be delicious, the hospitality will be warm, and with certainty you’ll get a table in a timely manner.”

For 80 years, Mary Mac’s has been a place people can count on — whether for a weeknight dinner, a family celebration or a first visit to Atlanta. Over the decades, the restaurant has served generations of Atlantans and famous visitors alike, including the Dalai Lama, James Brown, Alan Jackson, the late President Jimmy Carter and the late Congressman John Lewis. The State of Georgia has honored the restaurant with a special resolution, officially recognizing it as “Atlanta’s Dining Room.”

Mary Mac’s Tea Room is located at 224 Ponce de Leon Ave. NE. For reservations or more information, call 404-876-1800 or visit marymacs.com.
