At Johnny’s Hideaway, the music does more than set the mood — it keeps generations on their feet.

Since 1979, Atlanta’s original nightclub has relied on a carefully curated playlist that spans decades, genres and dance styles to keep the dance floor packed night after night. From disco and Motown to ’80s pop, country favorites and today’s crowd-pleasers, the mix is designed to make it impossible to sit still.

Owner Chris D’Auria says the secret is knowing when to lean into nostalgia and when to surprise guests with a song they forgot they loved. Longtime DJs read the room in real time, blending classics like “I Will Survive” and “Dancing Queen” with high-energy sing-alongs and modern hits that appeal to both longtime regulars and first-time visitors.

The result is a rare scene where 20-somethings, couples in their 40s and seasoned dancers who have been coming since the late 1970s all share the same dance floor. It’s not uncommon to see swing, shag and freestyle moves happening side by side — all driven by a soundtrack that feels personal to everyone in the room.

Johnny’s Hideaway also shares its Most Requested Songs playlist on Spotify, giving fans a way to relive the dance-floor favorites that keep the club moving night after night.
